Saturday night saw a host of QTIPoC people come out in full force to support and SHOW LUV to both Kai & Naeem as the fundraising for their top surgery continued. Both Pxssy Palace and BBZ teamed up to celebrate and support two individuals very close to their hearts who aim to live their best lives the way they want to. SHOW LUV was literally all about showing love and Saturday evening saw two different events take place under one roof that not only supported queer womxn, trans, and non-binary people of colour but prioritised them.
It all began with the special one night Show Luv Speed Social, a team up with Feeld; the multi-partner dating app that connects people of all identities based on transparency and chemistry. It was my first time trying speed dating so to say I was nervous was an understatement. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt nothing but love and warmth. The theme was clear, love was in the air and tonight was the night to mingle. The overall aesthetic matched so sweetly with the vibe. From the sexy pink lights to the candles and rose petals to the sparkling glitter balls, everything was set in place.
After chugging down two double spiced rum lemonades and a shot of tequila, I was ready to not just find love but feel it. I met some really amazing and interesting queer poc who were also virgins to the speed dating game. Some came to potentially find a boo and some came to make new friends. The great thing about the Speed Social was it was all based on chemistry, everything felt super organic, nothing felt rushed or forced which was the main thing I loved about it. Everyone I spoke to had nothing but positive things to say about their speed dating experience. It was nice knowing that this space and opportunity had been created by people we know, love and trust.
“It’s a fun interesting way to meet new people. I’ve never been speed dating before so I was really nervous but also super excited about coming tonight. I can appreciate that this is another space made for people like myself” – Rachel, one of the speed daters.
Once the Speed Social was over, it was time for a mini party before the main party. A chance to once again connect with everyone in the room, feed off each other’s energies and vibes. As soon as the doors to the main party opened, the dancefloor was filled with beautiful queer people ready to skank the night away. With sounds from some of the best DJ’s including Larry B, Basmati, Shy One, Ikonika, Plug Keisha and many more, there was no denying that SHOW LUV was about to SHOW OUT. Not only could you feel the love, but you could also see it. Vibing amongst the crowd was some familiar faces from people in our community including Ari Fitz, Tanya Compas, Liv Little, Enam Asiama, Miss Jason and many more.
I really appreciated how both BBZ & Pxssy Palace took all things into consideration when putting this night together. There were two rooms to party in, the main space downstairs and a smaller space upstairs. There was also a sober area, The Sanctuary, for those who wanted to be chill and have a breather. Vegan munchies were available courtesy of Dee’s Table, who were serving Jamaican patties and burgers ready to be indulged. For those looking to create memories of the night, there was a free photo booth for you and your friends or loved ones to capture a moment. Every inch of Saturday’s event was covered from start to finish.
SHOW LUV was a success and I think I speak for everyone in attendance and even those who couldn’t make it when I say we are so proud and happy for Kai & Naeem and wish them nothing but the best. When the QTIPoC community comes together to share love and support to those who need it, it’s a blessing and beautiful thing.
You can still make a donation to Kai & Naeem’s top surgery HERE ❤️.
